This review is about the different ways to get people to your website and whether paid or free traffic is the best way for you to go.

Internet marketers and website owners love traffic.
It is like crack for them.
No matter what your product or service is, it has to be put in front of people for them to learn about it and possibly become customers or clients.
It is simply math, the more people see your product, the more people buy it.
The scope of this post is not conversions and full sales funnels (although they are equally if not more important).
Let’s talk about where people already go that we can use to push them to your website.
You can post your website link on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and those people in your friends group will see it.
Those are great free resources, but most likely not enough to keep you in business.
Ideally, Google would just send people to your site after they searched for your product (organic traffic).
This works if you can get Google to rank you.
Bing also has organic searches, but obviously a smaller audience.
You can also create a free Youtube channel with videos that have links to your website.
Remember that videos do not necessarily need to be you in front of a camera.
Pinterest is another way to get free traffic from putting in a little creative sweat work.
These are all great options, but they don’t just start working the day you put your website online.
Getting free organic traffic is awesome, but it takes some time to build.
There are tools to help you grow that faster, but those also take some knowledge and money.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the term used to describe the strategy that gets a website to rank.
Google owns Youtube and both of those platforms rank websites, channels, and videos based on what Google feels like gives the user the best experience.
This is going to be based on a few factors.
First, Google needs to be able to see what your website is about.

If your site is only one or two pages with few words, then Google’s algorithm does not rank it very high on its pages.
The way to bypass that is to get other websites to promote yours by putting your site link on their pages.
These are called backlinks.
This makes you look like more of an authority.
You can buy these links as well from sites like Fiverr.com and Konker.io.
However, be careful.
If you do too many too fast, then Google can see what you’re doing and your website could get penalized or banned.
The growth needs to look like a normal gradual thing.
A great way to do this naturally is to reach out to websites in similar niches and possibly help each other out with linking to each other.
I read on another blog that you can go on sites and look for broken links (links that don’t work anymore) and ask to put your link there instead.
The second way to help Google rank your website is having a blog with several posts.
Once you have 50 posts or more, Google starts to see you as an authority and will send you free traffic.
Also, blogs have several words that Google can crawl to really see what your website is actually about.
Several pages of great posts will actually help Google send you more free traffic.
Youtube works identically as above, except with videos.
Youtube will go through your videos, keywords, and titles to see where you belong in searches and place you according to content, backlinks, and what they believe is the user experience.
Pinterest also uses SEO in order to get you free traffic.
It is a smaller platform than Google but ignore it to your own detriment as it is a very powerful driver of traffic to websites.
Pinterest works using words and images on creative graphics called “pins”.
It is easier to rank on Pinterest than Google, but still requires time and a creative eye.
Free traffic is great because it is free.
However, it takes time to get sites ranked so that they are getting consistent traffic.
Now, let’s get to paid ads.
Paid ads can be used on any of the platforms we have discussed.
You can pay for people to click to your site directly on Google if they type in certain keywords.
This is the quickest way to get people to your site and also the most expensive.

Bing works the same for lower costs to smaller audiences.
Youtube will show ads on its platform and only charge you after someone watches it for 30 seconds or more.
This can work great if you can be compelling in the first 30 seconds and get someone to finish watching or click to your website.
Also, it is less expensive to advertise on Youtube than Google.
Pinterest has pay-per-click advertising that costs less per click than Google.
These are all keyword-based and there are pros and cons here to using these platforms for paid ads.
The pros are that people are finding your ad when they are trying to solve their problem.
The cons are that several other websites and ads are listed on those same searches and yours has to look the best to get the sale.
You might be paying for a lot of clicks that aren’t generating revenue.
Other ad platforms that you can advertise on that work differently are Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook owns Instagram and they work mostly through Facebook’s ad platform.
Facebook seems counterintuitive to many marketers, but may be the most powerful ad platform available.
Facebook has been collecting data on its users for several years now and it knows a lot more about each of us than we probably wish it did.
That being said, you can laser target certain demographics and interests in order get your ad in front of your exact ideal customer.
They may not be looking for your website at that moment, but they are also not looking at your competitors when your ad shows up in their newsfeed.
The reason to pay Facebook or anyone to run your ads is to get people to your website faster than building an organic base.
It costs money, but time spent also has a cost.
Depending on your product and timeframe, each of the platforms offers benefits and drawbacks.
I, personally run paid ads and I also spend time building a site that gets organic traffic.
Everything works, but they all require some knowledge and experience to attain mastery.
