With everything going on right now, I have been searching for ways to be helpful instead of just discussing how bad things are and what is potentially on the horizon.
First and foremost, if you are looking for ways to make money from home, then see my #1 Recommendation to Make Money Online.
There is some free training and more advanced help that you can purchase if you need it.
If nothing else, it is much better to have skills that you can use to earn a living if an issue comes up at any moment in life.
As you may have noticed, advance preparation has helped some people keep a cool head while others have been frantically searching for supplies because they were not prepared.
Ok, let’s get to the topic here.
I want to preface all this by saying, I am not a licensed medical doctor.
Everything I talk about here is either from experts in nutrition or medicine or is from my personal experience.
I have researched this topic over several years in my quest for better health and longer life.
Everyone is different and has different bodies, so what works for me may not work as well for you.
That said, I rarely get sick even when everyone around me has a cold or strep throat.
Also, even when I do come down with something, my recovery is typically 1-2 days instead of 3-7 like I see with most people.
This has only been the case since I started doing the things I recommend here so I believe they have merit.
Also, I’m not pushing a health product here.
I have a couple recommendations, but they are inexpensive and found at local stores.
First, most people are not getting enough of certain vital nutrients.
I’m not going to get into all the nuances of food (organic, non-GMO, etc.).
Do your homework and decide what you want to spend your money on there.
However, most of us don’t get enough different whole foods to get everything into our bodies we need.
A mutivitamin could help, but there are arguments on both sides of taking one.
I personally take a multivitamin everyday.
Vitamin D:
Most people are deficient in vitamin D.
It is used in the body for dozens of processes like bone health and it helps fight off disease.
Your body makes it naturally from the sun, but most people aren’t getting enough exposure and it is not abundant in most foods.
I am hesitant to give a recommended dosage because it would be different for everyone.
I take 250 mcg per day and I have talked to people who get injections of much more just to keep their levels stable.
More than half the US population is deficient.
Magnesium:
Magnesium is deficient in almost everyone.
The body will not absorb it in the presence of calcium and it gets excreted by the kidneys pretty easily.
Magnesium is used in several of the body’s processes and being deficient typically also means potassium is low.
There are several different supplements and they all claim their version is the best for absorption.
Whatever you take, be careful, it can be a laxative at too high a dose.
Probiotics:
Whatever is happening in the GI tract is affecting everything else..
Is it an acidic environment due to poor diet choices?
The stomach and intestines are the second brain.
Probiotics are good bacteria found in the intestine and help balance all the bad stuff that comes through.
They are found in some foods and other foods help them stay healthy.
Also, if you have taken antibiotics, you cleared out all the probiotics in your body which need to regenerate.
Probiotic foods would be yogurt, kefir, and kombucha.
Other foods that help are pickled or fermented foods (sauerkraut, kimchi).
I take a probiotic supplement also in order to keep things normal in case I don’t eat any of those things.
Greens Powder:
I love vegetables but I don’t usually eat enough in a day to get everything I need.
I take a greens powder to try and fill in the gaps.
Its just a scoop of powder made from dried up vegetables that you dissolve in water.
Many greens powders are expensive and I suggest you do some searching here.
I personally use Oximega Orange Greens by Controlled Labs because a 60 day supply is $30 on bodybuilding.com.
Also, it tastes like spearmint.
I take this everyday but it does not replace healthy diet, it’s just a supplement.
Vitamin C:
Everyone knows that Vitamin C boosts your immune system.
However, most people are deficient and they don’t start taking it until they are sick.
I buy Emergen-C and take one every single day.
I also like Airborne, but it’s more expensive.
You just mix a pack in water and drink it.
Trust me and get the super orange flavor.
The raspberry is seriously terrible.
Now, let’s talk about things that aren’t supplements.
I have 3 more recommendations and these are probably more important than anything else above.
First of all, get some exercise.
If you can’t go to the gym because the COVID-19 is still a problem then just get outside and take a walk.
You can still hike, walk, bike, swim, and do a myriad of exercises outdoors to get your blood moving.
Find something you enjoy doing instead of looking for the most miserable method because that’s what others are doing (treadmill).
I personally like to hike a trail and have some scenery while I walk or jog.
It only takes a half hour to get your body moving.
CAUTION:
Do not kill yourself the first few days because that actually lowers your immunity at first.
Your body has to expend too much to recover in that initial time frame if you go nuts at first.
Second, find a way to destress.
This virus has everyone thinking about the virus constantly and scrolling social media and newsfeeds looking for more information.
It’s putting people in a constant fear state and stress lowers immunity.
Limit social media scrolling and find things to do that relax you.
It’s easy to say “Stop Stressing!!” but if you replace that time thinking about what’s going on with another activity that takes your mind off things, your body will be much better at fighting off disease.
Interestingly, exercise and sunlight also lower stress.
Get it?
Replace the time with something else instead of just sitting around stewing on it.
Ok, lastly:
Fasting boosts your immune system.
That means going periods of time without eating.
We typically do this naturally between dinner and breakfast, but going longer actually helps immunity and longevity.
Here’s why, after fasting for 8 hours, the body runs out of carbs and begins to look for fuel and starts using other parts of the body.
These are damaged cells and fat stores.
Fasting also regenerates white blood cells.
In fact, a 72 hour fast completely regenerates your entire immune system.
However, you don’t need to go that long to reap the benefits of improved immunity through waiting longer to eat.
Now, I know that you may be skeptical of this and I have had many people argue with me about different topics associated with this.
Read “Eat Stop Eat” by Brad Pilon.
He goes through the studies and research and lays out the benefits and drawbacks of fasting.
I’ve been fasting on and off for about 5 years and it was a total health game changer for me.
First, fasting costs nothing and actually saves me money on food because I only eat 1-2 meals in a day now (I typically fast 20-24 hours 5-7 days per week).
I feel mentally better and surprisingly have more energy for most of the day.
It cleared up my skin and I look younger than before.
Also, it helps me keep the extra weight off while maintaining muscle mass.
You can try some or all of these and I hope you find increased health.
Thank you for reading.
