We stand on the shoulders of giants.
I feel immense gratitude for the people who have come before me and have pushed through challenge and hardship in order to accomplish great things.
I spend a lot of time studying success and successful people and the thought I often have is, “That is pure genius!”, followed by, “I wish I could come up with something like that.”
How would it be to have an idea that could literally change the way people think, or reduce or eliminate suffering?
The likely next problem may be that even if I had an idea like that, how would I get that idea off the ground and make it into a reality?
I think many, many people go to their tombs with brilliant ideas, great inventions, and unfulfilled dreams.
There are many reasons that people either never make the contribution in their hearts.
Most of the underlying reasons are related to fear.
What if nobody listens to me or worse, laughs at my idea?
What happens if I put all my time and energy into this and it flops or I lose everything I have already worked so hard for?
What if I truly put everything I am on the line and it is not enough?
I feel these same things everyday.
I ask myself often:
Does what I write even make a difference for anyone?
I was talking to a great friend recently about this topic.
This friend is a retired New York City Police Officer and said, “There were many days that I struggled to get out of bed and go to work.”
I think about the good in this person and how much impact was made in the lives of others by protecting them from harm.
The struggle inside everyone is real and it is easy to compare ourselves to others.
Think about this though,
Abraham Lincoln was defeated twice running for the US senate before running for President.
Can you imagine what was going through his head as he went into the 1860 presidential election?
What if he had never run?
Sometimes, I find myself looking at my limitations and trying to figure out what strengths I have that set me apart.
In all reality, maybe I have no real unique special traits, but then I am reminded of people like Helen Keller.
She had scarlet fever very young and afterwards, could not hear or see.
Her grit and determination were all that she had and she showed us how to overcome adversity.
She made a huge difference in getting money and awareness to people and places that desperately needed it at that time.
You have greatness inside you merely because you are here right now.
This shows up everyday in the way you interact with your family and friends, the way you go the extra mile at work, or make someone smile for no real reason.
You already do make a difference in this world just by being who you are.
If you feel a higher calling inside that nudges you sometimes to do more, then perhaps it is time now to start listening to it.
There is a humility I see in inherent in many people that make them believe that they aren’t special and to try to go beyond what they do is vanity.
There has been a great deal of good done in this world because of vanity.
If you don’t like recognition, then push through and change the world anyway.
If you want all the recognition and you know your idea will help people, then push through and change the world.
It is foolish to hold back from blessing people because we have motivations that perhaps we or “the world” considers impure or not completely altruistic.
Apple and Amazon have created countless jobs, and changed the entire way people buy and use products and services.
Those two companies also make a TON of money.
They need that money to continue innovating, changing the world, and blessing us with new advancements.
Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos had massive visions and they worked tirelessly in order to see those come true.
They were not superhuman and they had to push through fear and other hardship in order to make it all happen.
What is it that is truly holding you back?
The obstacles in your way are either surmountable or are literally in your head.
You can get started today.
Take one step today toward your vision.
You don’t even need it all laid out.
Just take one step today.
Tomorrow you can take another step and soon you will be accomplishing it.
I only got into online marketing to make some extra money originally and possibly quit my job.
I just wanted something more than what my life was at the time.
It was only in pursuing more that my life morphed into what it is today.
If all you want right now is a little more, then just start going that direction today.
You will be amazed at how smart you really are and what you are capable of doing.
