Building and growing an online business can be both exhilarating and daunting.
However, not every aspect of entrepreneurship is filled with excitement.
Mundane and difficult tasks often dominate the journey.
It’s crucial to learn how to love the parts that feel mundane and boring.
You can do this by using your brain to reward you with dopamine when you tackle these tasks.
I don’t want to get too much into brain science, but this is how you can stay focused longer and not feel burn out.
Here are some tips and hacks to help you get that brain pleasure rush to keep you going as long as you need.
Set Clear and Attainable Goals:
Your brain thrives on goals and achievements.
A large massive goal will feel overwhelming and you might want to procrastinate starting.
Break the goal down into daily and weekly bites.
You will get the small wins which feel good and be moving toward your large goal.
Only focus on today, not what you need to get done this year or month.
Celebrate Milestones and Progress:
Acknowledge and celebrate the milestones you reach along your entrepreneurial journey.
Reward yourself for starting.
Then again, for completing your first task or set of tasks.
Keep celebrating achievement and your brain will crave more.
Celebrate getting better instead of the end result.
This will pull out the level of excellence you need to get ahead of your competition.
I still struggle with this.
The first few wins can seem small and inconsequential compared to the big goal you have.
They are necessary.
Reward yourself for being on the difficult path.
Reinforce the good behavior.
Gamify Your Tasks:
Turn mundane or repetitive tasks into games or challenges.
Set targets for tasks based on time or accuracy.
Try to hit those and then, try to beat them.
If you make it a game, it will feel more fun and way less serious.
Create a Reward System:
Design a reward system for yourself tied to accomplishing challenging business tasks.
Your brain loves being rewarded for doing hard things.
You can give yourself a treat, do something fun, take a break or anything that gets you excited.
I have found this method very effective to get work done.
Visualize Success:
Imagine the future success and growth of your online business vividly.
Picture yourself winning and achieving.
Your brain will make it come true.
Cultivate a Growth Mindset:
Embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth.
Remember that you are getting better and there will be obstacles and roadblocks.
Your attitude about the problem is way more important than the problem.
If you attack challenges with a learning and growth mindset, your brain will reward you with better feelings about them.
Find Meaning and Purpose:
Connect the tasks you find mundane or difficult to the larger purpose and vision of your online business.
Remind yourself of the impact you have on customers, communities, or the world at large.
If you can overwhelmingly see how the task you are doing is leading you to what you want, it is easy to keep going.
A hack that works is write down a hundred reasons how a task is beneficial to you, your goal, or your business.
Your brain will take it in subconsciously and help you change.
Practice Mindfulness and Gratitude:
Engage in gratitude exercises.
Express gratitude for the opportunities, challenges, and progress you experience.
Mindfulness and gratitude practices activate the brain’s reward system.
Master these concepts and you will be a bulletproof force in your life and business.
Nothing will be able to stop you.
