If you seek success, you have to understand that self-mastery is a necessary catalyst to get you there.
If you learn to master 3 things, you will know how to carry that mastery into every area of your life.
You will not be ruled by your bodily desires or emotions.
You will feel calm and poised for action when necessary.
You will be able to see things as they really are.
Let’s get into it.
Controlling Hunger: Nourishment for the Body and Mind
Hunger, often considered a basic bodily need, extends beyond mere sustenance.
It is a metaphor for desires and passions.
Think about how you feel when you are really hungry.
It can take over your life until you eat something.
However, you can train your mind to take control when you feel hunger so that it doesn’t affect you nearly as much.
I have spent years struggling to eat well and stay in shape.
Two concepts really helped me overcome my battle much easier.
It’s not that I never struggle with hunger, but I have tools that make it much easier.
First, it is ok to feel hunger.
If you feel hunger taking over your body and mental ability,
stop for a second and just let the feeling happen and think about what will happen if you don’t eat soon.
You are not going to die.
You will be uncomfortable for a few minutes, and amazingly, the raging hunger will actually pass.
The brain is accustomed to sending you hunger signals at certain times of day, because that’s when you normally eat.
However, if you just delay past that time for a bit, it will actually pass and not feel near as strong.
Try it.
Second, spending time being hungry actually helps your hormones, focus, and heals the body.
It’s basically fasting, but if that word has a negative charge for you, then call it something else.
Fasting has incredible benefits.
- It increases insulin sensitivity
- reduces inflammation,
- promotes autophagy (your body recycles damaged cells for energy, many of these cells could be precancerous)
- regenerates your immune system
- and many other benefits.
It gets a bad wrap from companies selling products because you don’t need to buy anything.
You just stop eating.
Also, if you spend a day or two without eating food, you will see how your emotions play a role in your diet.
You get a better sense about why you eat and possibly learn some valuable lessons about yourself.
Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and get some electrolytes.
Also, I’m not a doctor so do some research and be smart about it.
Learn to control your response to hunger and watch how much it carries over into the rest of your life.
Controlling Your Wallet: Financial Mastery and Beyond
Financial control extends far beyond the mere accumulation of wealth.
Most purchases are emotional and often impulsive.
This is the most simple skill to learn, but so few actually do it.
Too often, I hear people express their inability to control their finances due to the fact that they don’t earn enough.
It’s a lie.
Everyone needs to manage their money.
Also, your earning power is under your control.
If you only have $10 after paying your “necessary” bills, then manage that money until it grows.
Also, learn something that will get you paid more.
At one point in my life, I made enough money to be comfortable so I didn’t feel like I needed a budget.
Because of that mindset, I would just spend it on nonsense.
I didn’t plan my meals and overspent on food and all kinds of stupid stuff that wasn’t helping me get to where I wanted to.
One day, I sat down and looked to see where all my money was going and I was shocked at how much I was wasting on things that weren’t really adding to my quality of life.
Once you set a budget and stick to it, you will see yourself making better decisions in almost every area of your life.
It is incredible how that discipline seemed to spread everywhere.
It helped me use my time more wisely, eat better, and plan for better experiences.
Needless to say, I also had more money for things I really wanted.
Write down what you’re spending your money on everyday for a week or month.
Then make a budget and watch your entire life change.
Controlling Your Sex Drive: Harnessing Vital Energy
Sex drive is one of the most powerful forces in the universe.
It is linked to so much energy in the mind and body and your creativity.
If you don’t believe me, think about how creative someone becomes when they are trying to woo a potential sexual mate.
It seems like there is nothing that can stop a person driven by sexual desire.
Napoleon Hill talks about transmutation of sexual energy and how it can be used to unleash endless energy and creativity.
If you can learn to use sexual energy for something other than sex, than you will find you have an endless source of that creativity and drive.
I believe this is one of the main reasons, men become wealthy and successful in their middle or later years after they have learned to harness this energy.
I know that when I was younger, I made decisions based on sexual desire that had lifelong consequences.
I had to learn how my lack of discipline was keeping me from the dreams in my chest.
If you learn to control your sex drive, you will be able to overcome anything.
Also, you will see that control and power in every other aspect of your life.
Become A Master
In the pursuit of success, master hunger, money, and sex drive.
You will find yourself able to navigate your life much easier.
You will reach your goals more quickly.
You will be unstoppable.
